test pattern / reconstruction 3

In order to develop 'test pattern' by Ryoji Ikeda into a system which will allow for the devlopment of an urban agglomeration of multiplied, heterogeneous and discontinuous spaces i felt it was important to break down some of the current regidity.

I began this process by investigating the primary organisational principle of strips which structure a sequence of elements, taking varing aproaches to test an increased diversity with in the pattern.

retaining the principle of of rythem which organised the varying elements
i investigated sequence of pushing and pulling the various elements organised with in the strips.

To reduce the pattern density the smaller elements where removed creating a more feasible urban grain.

to allow more heterogenity where there were localised elements with similar properties they where merged, breaking the regimeted strata.

The pattern formed provides the bases for a potential urban framework. within the confines of these simple rules this pattern can be manipulated to create an urban matrix generating a diversified and elastic development, produced within the flexibility of the framework.

This initail sketch begins to test the pattern against the idea of a plug in city. The existing pattern becomemes an elastic framework in which elements of the city can be added to form a changing flexible agglomoration of urban mat.
